Embrace Me

Never too bold, I have been told
that intensity dances with seduction within me.
I concede.
It is my desire to be heard and spirit that is loved,
it is the beauty of the elders, guiding me from above.
Embrace me.
Don't embrace me with sticky fingers and a dirty mouth or
with lies of yesteryear.
I no longer believe those.
God has given me discernment.
Embrace me with
the crown of truth,
loyalty, tears, riches of mankind, not of materialistic use.
Embrace my eyes and caramel skin, the losses that I have endured,
my obsession with a pen.
Hug me until I squeal and giggle out loud,
pontificate with me until we move the crowd.
Embrace me, just because you like my blank stare or the way I sometimes talk to myself when no one is there,
because I share my truths, sometimes on a cross for my views,
passionately,
because I praise no man but God and tear when I am not sure if He hears me
yet still believe in chasing my dreams.
Embrace me because I am flawed, bleed when cut, blast music in the burbs because hip hop is a part of me.
Poor righteous teachers need as much love as they give.
You might feel good if you give it to me.
I give it to the world in my poetry.

Stunned by Harmony by Chris Vasquez

The lost seize of an army to war out the enemies from its protection.
Neglect to defend a fight of the life we choose to accept as home,
Alone it roams through a desert mind, dried by it negativity as placement in captivity of being one track minded...
Spoken actions contradict the fear in play of ones thoughts just to be reasonable,
It lies all in the hands of its protector,
And through it all the eyes become the compass to to a lost illusion of being..
Trapped in the chapter of hell, burned by facts, blackened from experience.
We subside to ease just a minute away from the detriment of our time now to chase a supposed,
War inclined only in the heat of battle no one to understand our biggest defeat is giving into it all being just another dream.
Believe what it's said to have scripted in the play along of Hollywood remake to which we envy just the chance of it being inevitable...
Praise be found in the hand of its writer,
Homage be paid to the mind of the creator,
Awarded just another day to see the light that reflect it's thoughts to be it's inspiration of jotting words that segment creativity with the distinguished to another relation.

Methaphorically by C. Vasquez

If being in love with the impossible distracts me from a nightmare of reality, I choose never to awake...
Simply let me believe and possibly do the unthinkable... Anything but the ordinary, I'm far just the typical...
Call it how you see it, but yet, how does someone so blinded have the answer to questions that are visible...
Take but don't return the favor of my wisdom,
I think out loud, and out the box,
Come to recognize I speak only what the insane choose to understand as scriptures to there relation.
Don't follow my footsteps, slight chance you might fall in from the impact I left behind,
Just try to understand my lingo, I don't speak in tongs, just lyrics...
Find a beat and flow with the rhythm of my words...
Come to terms that my diligence will stun you...
Young and ambitious is a given, yet challenged with taking on former failure is what I do best...
I correct it, perfect it, make it my own, and finally school you on a former lesson...
Fate has found a voice, although mute to many, let my actions be what contemplates your judgment,
Maybe see what's thought to be expected, or just anything far from it.
Silence is the loudest voice...
Come back to question why I love being in love with the impossible,
Just might be that the impossible is in fact a strong possibility to be my metaphor that I'm in love with only what I already have...
Your eyes and ears speak only what you can handle, obviously nothing to extravagant...
You settle for a draw, and give into lies...
I on the other hand, take this as my opportunity and once again let you see how one can pretend and withstand just the unthinkable.
“Knock my hustle of my lyrics, and watch how I fall out stinging with my words... Blow for blow, undefined champ is what I call myself, take a breather and see if your ready for round 2"

The Shark

Whirlwind of a romance Lust love and passion Deep sea diving I alone of the 2 of us can tango Upstream against the current We fight in sex You're a shark, We dance Entwined We're 1 I love u so much I can't breath But you can So peacefully And before I can steal a breathe From the surface we dive again Just trust you It feels so good but it hurts Deep blue and I cant see But u bring me back a we tread You apologize And I'm in love You splash me I burn but again you're sorry I love you so I believe But you're a shark So we dance No one can do to you what I do And to me you Im trapped in the belly of a beast with a storm on the rise I can see into your eyes Up for air we eat I curse you We wrestle but you're a shark so we dance I lose every single time This beautiful wet beast Im weak for You take a bite of me Im out of lust This is very real Im in love It hurts and I love it We hurt but im nasty And You love me u So we dance No song left to play No music just the beat of our hearts Trapped in the heart of a storm In an ocean Because you're a shark...

Deja Vu by Chris

Love thy one whom stands right with you,
Conquers their search as you are to be it's conquest...
Face the trail of deception to come around when you soon to fade...
Alive in mind, but lifeless to feeling any thing close to what once opened to be a possibility...
Never sleep on once upon time, in time it will be just a part of a past,
Soon just to be forgotten, as the love once united has fallen,
Take the answers as to questions, take the questions, as to remember what you failed to answer...
Fail to regret the coming of expectation,
Take a step, look back, possibly turn around, and run to your ever after...
A second time around might just be in questions, all up to you to make the decision and give what is the supposed answer.
How to you deal taking a chance, and already it falls apart? Although pain strictens, regret in mind...
And alone in soul... We have time...Take as much needed to mend...
As it moves on, reason your doubt...
As the wounds heal, reopen the chapter...
As you contradict fate, play with the ember that once ignited what once was the lust...
And as every minute proceeds to pass,
Look back to resentment as wishful thinking.
I'm ready to walk away...
As I do, I promise myself to give into every chance, collapse at every expectation,
and break till the scars become armor.
As I face myself to listen to what I once preached...
Here I go again, but with that something thy I shall cherish...Deja Vu.
“Deja Vu: To know not to forget, but to remember why I moved on.

Soaring

I am in motion.
Flying.
Diving.
Praying.
Remaining.
Motion. Unstoppable.
Carrying my cross.
Teaching the future.
Writing truth without fear.
Humbled by life.
Motion. Mobility.
Leaving a legacy.
Fighting with faith.
Holding on to hope.
Defying the odds.
In motion.
I see beauty.
I speak ideals.
I feel journeys.
I taste success.
I hear the wind.
I am soaring,
without leaving the ground.
Watch me.

What's In by Anonymous

Stolen clothing for sale.
Across the world.
Warehouses full.
It’s legal to sell that turquoise coyote necklace, that shirt made of cheap cotton with the geometric design printed on it in that perfect sequence.
The perfect sequence every time- triangles and suns, muted earth tones that imitate the earth.
Love, live, desire, be nature.
Silently, ignorantly, blindly kill nature.
In the name of passing fad, in the name of social acceptance, pretend to be an activist, pretend to save the earth.
Pretend to protect and nurture and heal.
Say you protect and nurture and heal.
Believe you protect and nurture and heal!
Then steal something- something that was never yours, something that stopped being “urban” and stopped belonging to the people that are really meant to be “free”, and give your money to a world dominating corporation.
Thoughtlessly, effortlessly, guiltlessly, give away your money -that could be saving lives- to a company that destroys the environment so they can provide you with the latest in Navajo fashion.
Put their signature on the tag, is if it were theirs.
The sacred designs, the symbols.
They take credit for their history and culture and art, crudely printed using cheap materials, the overpriced jacket hardly doing it justice.
The Navajo, defenseless and proud stand and watch as their culture is snatched away, selfishly and blindly.
But it’s on sale at Urban!
Free People isn’t even bad or anything….
So fight for peace and love and be eco-friendly!
Sport your Kony 2012 t-shirt and your breast cancer awareness bracelet and your “Make Art Not War” bumper sticker!
Get with the program, get with the times, stay up to date, save the earth, feed the homeless, promote positive body image, achieve world peace, cure cancer, end world hunger……
….That’s what’s in right now, right?
Get with the program, get with the times, stay up to date, get an Iphone, watch sexist commercials, play war games, read a magazine about how to fix yourself, purchase overpriced cheap material objects from terrible corporations in the name of style (cause you are so unique), walk by the homeless without making eye contact, buy a “heal the ocean” bracelet that will end up in the ocean……
That’s what’s in right now, right?

On Racism and Discrimination by Minh Tan

To put it plainly,
We are all different, you and I, in what we are,
But we are not unique in who we are.
However, the true beauty in us is our depth,
Far deep down, we are all the same.
We are all people from our own cultures and lands,
But can we not all be friends?
We all speak in our own languages,
But do we not preach parallel messages?
We all sing harmonious melodies,
But together, do we not hum universal medleys?
We all teach different virtues,
But can we not all share common values?
We all recite our visions,
But do we not all tell of our inspirations?
We all strive for our own stars up high,
But do we not all reach for the sky?
We all adore our own lovers,
But can we not all love each other, too?
We all live here, there and everywhere,
But can we not all exist together?
We are all men, women and children of diverse origins,
But are we not all human?
So why is it that some of us treat certain others differently?
Why are some forced to obey the rules of a different game?
Is that all life is to some of us, a game?
Unfortunately, some people’s answer would put us to shame.
But it does not have to be that way,
Can we not, you and I, make a change for the better,
Everyday?

Entire Embrace

I embrace you through the misery,
some are just worth that extra mile.
You are.
I can only touch your spirit,
love your soul,
take the bits and pieces of us and
pray them whole.
I embrace you.
I embrace me.
I embrace us.
Knowing all along,
you are my destiny.

Eternal Student by DD Wright

Eternal Student
I received a text this Thursday night.
I read it and reread it this can't be right.
I read it a third time.
Was my sugar low?
Was I losing my sight?
Marley gone? No can't be.
Profiler shot him employed by NYPD? The young soldier? Old soul?
Next Langston Hughes?
Dream deferred? Civil Rights reborn? Inspiration behind the community singing the blues? Again?
I should not be here saying this poem. Marley you should not be there while we sing these songs.
I started to write a poem verbally degrading NYPD
and about the tears and pain that some have bought to other communities.
I started to assault the paper as so many of us have been treated historically.
I started to but decided to not add to the the insanity and profanity.
I decided to write about the beauty of Marley.
Oh I remember the sparkle in your eyes.
Every morning your chocolate face and gorgeous smile.
So today I remember not the officer and his bullet causing your demise.
I remember a student whose spirit will never  unrise.
I remember a child who's writing touched souls.
I remember an unforgettable memory to whomever he beholds.
Loved ones heartbroken never thought this would be your destiny but God makes no mistakes.
Perhaps he took you young to increase the steaks,
make folk march,
stand up for injustice,
provoke the world to salute you,
not just us.
You, Marley, you had to bring about change.
You, the son of the people, had to go home early so that we could scream your name.
I am Marley G, you are us too!
We pray for your family and the you alive today.
I pray that I never have to say goodbye to another student this way. You are loved and will be missed yet your story will not be deceased. Marley London Graham, rest in peace.

Baby by Chris Vasquez

Forever I'll miss the part of myself that died in the reign of battle to escape the torment I placed upon myself.

I'll miss the doubt that allowed me to question all the actions taken were ever worth just the sacrifice.
I miss the vulnerable child who fell gullible to deception yet still kept hope.

I'll never forget the bastard child who saw life as content still questioning who he identified as...
How young naive and foolish he was... im still skeptical to think it was okay to be such a burden.
I said goodbye to the hypercrite who laughed amongst the crowd but weeped in silence... knowing it was all just an act.
As I burned the silent soul who only whispered truth but spoke lies to the universe... I step upon his ashes and blew him into world he once feared.
And the award goes to...
the boy who thought beauty could be bought...
He knew damn well his scars could never be covered up, when he secretly Despised himself knowing he was ugly only on the inside...
Takes more than a price to fill in the cracks he broke into,
How is it possible I allow such a pathetic form of human live inside me without charging interest,  with the flaw of just being unexplainable...
But yet I miss him... without him,  id be just one sick son a bitch with no excuse of why I am the way that I am.
I'd be the desperate. vindictive,  split image of my own self who thrives on the attack of self humiliation...
Im sorry,  but truth be told... He wasnt worth that much of my attention to cater too.
To the lost boy... Cheers,   may you find happiness in your crossover...
Respect our separation and move on... in time you'll realize all you've brought me was a shadow of doubt and hatred...
Walk away now and find contentment in a life too perfect for neither of us...
Be grateful I gave you the privilege to die and set you free,
Remember how many others selfishly hold on to a past of regret, burry into doubt of the present...
And never see a future because there stuck living with the past.
Thank me later baby.

Control

This feeling that I have going through my veins is unexplained,
Pain is not to blame its more like confusion that I can't seem to tame.
Tired of this game things aren't the same. Just want this feeling to be tamed...this feeling running through my veins is insane.

The Communist Father by Ka'Mone Felix

Let us speak of fathers
of mine
Of the way he holds highway to sleeve when he trusts in running
Of the way he drives
Both hands to the steering wheel
Pulse to leather
All racetrack eulogy and crying man
Of tough.
Of soft and tough.
Like daddy's should be.

I am his first born
With a tongue like his mother's
And his laugh.
Guttural battle
yawning laugh
Open hearted and stolen.
We laugh
Like happiness is paperweight to be found
And lost again
Like pebbles
Quaking in the belly of
A 1920's medusa
Tendrils outstretched
Waiting for allah to swallow the fingerprints
Bent at the torso
Knee slapping and careful

He is
The quietest man I've known to date
Red flag of a tongue
Opinions
Filtered into bolts of honest
For his daughters
He tells me
That once
When he almost couldn't control his words
(And this is da
This never happens)
He let his anger
All manifest and corrosion of it
Drive him to canada
In less than 24 hours
Foot to pedal
Because engine knows control
Engine knows heartbreak
And break down
And tune up
And creak and fold
Knows control
Knows everything he wants me to know

I know
More than he thinks I know
I know
That he is a man
Who is not afraid
Just too aware
His daughters
Will always be the pages of the prayer book
That have remained untouched
Even when they've been touched too hard

He will not believe.
He is too good.
Too honest.
Too deity.
Too aware to believe in such treachery
To believe that for once
Driving will not make it go away
For once
There is no engine to sputter
At the grunt of a bad turn
He’s had more cars
Than he’s had children
But understands now,
That the three of us are what will last.

Maya is his youngest
His second daughter
She is still a baby
Only milk mouthed and
Spittle gums
She barely knows me
Can identify the spill of my cheekbones
In photographs
And calls me some resemblance of "keemoan"

When she is older
She will understand how proud I am to know
That we share the same father
That there is nothing different of my childhood with him
We will both know of
Shoulders
Of moon touching
And the pierced ear of his rebel days
Of Guerilla fighting
Of paint brush and charcoal palms
Of oatmeal
and tea
With never enough sugar
Of half face smiles
And of driving.

Minds Going Crazy...(Past)

Just when you thought all was forgotten,
you get hit with a sudden curve ball.
Now dazed and confused you think to yourself, what if, maybe, could it be,... then you sit back and remember all that has happened and you get mad again and say why me.
Things happen for a reason, stop listening to everyone else..live your life... take a chance if you dare... but remember the dance you took. Think long and hard what you think is right... But don't start if your not ready to fight.

Dear Ex-Girlfriend, Learn To Be Bright... by Diamond Wynn

I've always wanted to now what lightening tasted like
and with outstretched jaw, love fell in.

You tasted like silent thunder
and told me, that i couldn't be any closer to sonic boom if i swallowed a firecracker.
So I loved you.

With skin like sandpaper, and razor sharp whit
You helped me realize
i had grown fond of girls with blades.
Only they could love me like i love myself.

Sunshine,

You were all liquid lava graceful
But you never let ash settle on my shoulders
before you got all broom sweep savior.
You promised me,
That you would never let me fall on my back.
Contracted scratches on my back.
You promised me...until you didn't.
And you never knew how to say sorry
So you tried to shove me in your pocket.
But im too much broken spine
from trying to origami myself into your head.

Ozone,

I thought i could fill the holes life bore into you
But I learned there's no cure
for the burn of Ultraviolet kiss.
I just wanted to fix you.
This was selfish of me.
Just because a heart is full of pitter pattter,
doesn't mean its rubber floor, playground proof.
Last night, i opened my chest
to see if the bruises from your boots were gone.
They weren't.
Instead,
Black and Blue shades of you
transformed into personified letters.
A being the meanest, Z being the kindest
this was backwards alphabet perfect.
24 colors, sandwiched between your emotional bookends
reminded me of the times I sat waiting for you to open up
the box i gave you on our first anniversary.
Inside was my pendant soul
dangling from cuff linked love
and you never even bothered to wear it.
I guess stars are too proud to wear the source of their shine around their necks.

Moonlight,

You told me once,
that if i closed my eyes when we kissed,
I could feel the beauty of the Nile River on my bones.
You lied. Those were just your hands.
You were always good at those types of lies.
Honestly,
did you think i was too stupid
to differentiate between the liquid glory of great Queens
and the sweaty palm of a little girl?

Skyline,

You are broken butterfly.
Don't tell me to pray things get better.
It frustrates me.
My pleas will only collect dust in heaven's workshop.
Baby...
Jesus may be a carpenter
But God has arthritis.
His hands fell weak too many wars ago
and when he dipped them in healing waters,
they emerged oil black.
He's a little busy right now.

Women,

Lets just fix this.
We've been unstuck for too many sunsets
and I'm gonna need you to stop calling me Elmer's.

Whats the problem?

You've already branded Amistad on my tongue.
Let's go.
Let go.
Give me my aura back.

Sunshine, Ozone, Moonlight, Skyline

You are not from the heavens
You are no lightening.
You are just girl.
Manufactured in a costume shop called Angels
and since I'm just a girl,
shoulder deep in clouds
you let me raise you pedestal high.
This felt like home to a runaway.
But you are heavy,
My wrists have broken,
and i cant carry lighthouses with broken bulbs.

These efforts are yellow flickers.
This was flashlight love.
The batteries are dead.
Get out of me.

Our short circuit spurts are exhausting.
We are pathetic.

My mother keeps warning me about my obsession with the sky,
but I've always been the type to stick wet fingers in sockets
just because i have a thing for sparks...
