The oversized coat and hair
The shuffle of feet trying to escape one another
The light crawling from the tops of boots
The guitar begging for silence
Waiting for
This shadow,
This floorboard of a woman
The weight of her too much to hold
Who swallowed words while she spoke
She sang like an old photograph
Color fading the room
Tearing each corner
And if nothing else
the stage
and the bar
the blocks of concrete and cement
would remember
